The Magic Beneath the Yucatán

The cenotes of Yucatán are among the region’s most extraordinary natural wonders—crystal-clear freshwater pools formed within the limestone beneath the peninsula. Some are open to the sky, while others are hidden inside caves and underground chambers.

Hacienda Sac Chich is ideally located for exploring the Cenote Ring, with the cenote-rich towns of Homún and Cuzamá just a short drive away. Each area offers a different experience, from rustic, locally run cenotes to more developed and polished destinations.

Homún

Just about 30–40 minutes from the Hacienda, Homún is one of the best places to experience the incredible variety of Yucatán’s cenotes. There are dozens to choose from, ranging from open-air pools surrounded by jungle to dramatic underground caves.

For a more traditional local experience, consider visiting Santa Bárbara, where three very different cenotes can be explored in one outing. Or ask us about some of the smaller, more secluded cenotes in the area—we are happy to recommend options depending on whether you prefer something rustic, adventurous, or easy and relaxed.

Cuzamá

Cuzamá is another excellent option close to the Hacienda, known for its collection of beautiful cenotes hidden among the former henequén plantations. The traditional experience includes traveling between cenotes by horse-drawn truck, a wooden cart once used to transport sisal.

The cenotes here are particularly atmospheric, with ladders leading down into cool, clear underground pools. Cuzamá is about 30 minutes from Hacienda Sac Chich and makes an easy half-day excursion.

Hacienda Mucuyché

For a more polished experience, Hacienda Mucuyché combines the beauty of a historic Yucatecan hacienda with two spectacular cenotes. The visit includes the elegant Hacienda grounds, Cenote Carlota, a natural water channel, and Cenote Azul Maya, a dramatic underground cenote with crystal-clear water.

Located about an hour from Sac Chich, Mucuyché is a wonderful choice for guests looking for a beautiful, well-organized day out that combines history, swimming, and the natural beauty of the Yucatán.
