Casita Caliza
Colonial architecture reimagined into luxe accommodations
Casita Caliza is the newest addition to Hacienda Sac Chich — a private retreat that blends contemporary luxury with traditional Yucatán craftsmanship. Located beside the gardens and pool area of Casa Vieja, the casita is tucked behind stone walls and lush tropical landscaping, offering guests a peaceful sense of seclusion and privacy.
Though modern in comfort and design, Casita Caliza was built using historic regional construction techniques. Its thick stone walls were handcrafted using the traditional colonial method known as “mampostería,” a labor-intensive process of carefully fitting cut stone and cement by hand. In Maya, this style is referred to as “pak’il naj,” and examples of it can still be found throughout the Yucatán.
The dramatically sloped roof, finished with richly toned vintage French tiles, is another tribute to the architectural history of the region, blending old-world character with refined modern living.

Oversized stone bathtub and bamboo design accents
Fish pond view from the hammock with secondary entrance
Casita Caliza is an intimate one-bedroom retreat featuring a Queen bed and a spacious spa-inspired bathroom. The casita is fully air conditioned and also includes a ceiling fan for added comfort. Within the bedroom, guests will find a mini refrigerator, Bluetooth speaker, and Nespresso coffee machine.
Beyond the bedroom archway lies a generous bathroom crafted with stone floors, handcrafted masonry walls, and traditional chukum finishes. Above, a bamboo ceiling meets glass panels that fill the space with soft natural light throughout the day. Enjoy a sunlit shower or unwind in the oversized stone soaking tub before relaxing in the hammock beside the gentle sound of the fish pond.
Stepping stones set within the pond lead to a second private entrance, enhancing the sense of seclusion and connection to the surrounding gardens.
Casita Caliza is constructed of hand-cut stones, limestone and plaster polished to a sleek finish by the ancient Mayan technique called chukum, and bamboo accents. The ceiling and door heights give every space a sense of great space.
